Making the Case for Prevention (Recorded Webinar)

Date: February 17, 2015

Time: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. EDT
Cost: Free

We live in a society that tends to wait for a problem to happen and waits until the consequences of that problem reach a point of urgency before action is taken. While there are signs of cultural change and an increasing value on wellness, getting community leaders and stakeholders to buy-in to the value and importance of prevention can still be challenging. Even if they want to prevent a problem, they very often don’t understand what prevention actually is or what effective prevention really takes. Too often, others think of prevention only as education with youth, or “just say no,” or may equate prevention with prohibition.

Join us as we explore how to best convey the power, value and scope of prevention to key community leaders and stakeholders.

Environmental Prevention is Sustainable Prevention

Session I: Recorded Webinar

Session II: Recorded Webinar

Session III: Recorded Webinar

Much of prevention is focused on individual attitudes, beliefs, behaviors and skills. Yet individuals do not make their choices in a vacuum. Key environmental factors play a significant role in the development of alcohol and other drug problems. Effective prevention must also focus on community norms, access and availability, media messages, and policy and enforcement. Environmental prevention can be difficult to communicate to community leaders and stakeholders. And it can be difficult to get buy-in for these important prevention strategies. Yet environmental prevention strategies have the most long-term, sustainable results.

Join us as we explore how to best convey the power and importance of environmental prevention to key community leaders and stakeholders.
